The Mental Health and Aging Coalition of Middle Tennessee was formed in April of 2002.  The organization consists of professionals, consumers, family members, public and private organizations, and interested individuals.  Coalition members work together toward improving the availability, accessibility, and quality of mental health prevention and treatment services for older adults and their families through education, advocacy, research, and increased public awareness.

1. Reduce the stigma of mental illness by educating older adults, family members, providers and community. Empower each to speak freely about mental health issues.

2. Identify the unmet mental health needs of older adults in the community

3. Advocate at the local, state, and national level for increased availability of mental health services for older adults.

4. Increase the awareness of mental health issues effecting older adults

5. Increase the awareness of and utilization of services available to meet mental health needs of older adults.
